Gerardo Hernandez, Assoc. AIA
Design Associate
M.Arch | Virginia Tech
B.Arch | University of Uruguay
Gerardo is a native Spanish speaker—one of several at BRW!—having been born and raised in Uruguay. Before earning his Masters in Architecture, Gerardo designed and managed steel fabrication for the construction industry. During his career as a construction project manager, he worked on a project on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., as well as on the design and production of various complex steel structures for projects overseas. Through these experiences and others, Gerardo brings a valuable understanding about the construction of projects of various sizes and complexity to brwarchitects.
At brwarchitects, Gerardo is a skilled leader of construction phase services and he has lead a number of complex projects successfully through completion. He works closely with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital as well as commercial and residential clients. He has enjoyed designing residential and small commercial projects in Virginia, as well as being involved in Habitat for Humanity.
Gerardo has a strong interest in urban projects and sustainable design, and believes architects play a significant role in improving the well-being of the community. He enjoys working on a wide diversity of projects at brwarchitects, and understands each project delivers a unique opportunity to tell a story. He enjoys traveling with his wife as well as reading and drinking a good cup of coffee. Currently, he oversees the construction of the large, multifamily complexes at the entrance of Southwood.
