Financial Manager

brwarchitects is looking for a finance professional to direct the firm’s Finance and Administration team. Reporting to firm Principals, the Financial Manager will oversee the firm’s fiscal functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP). This individual will serve as the key resource for day-to-day accounting at brwarchitects.

The ideal candidate for this position will be:

  • a doer who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and dig into the daily accounting work (AP, AR, reconciliations);
  • a builder who can help plan and build a more streamlined, systematized financial operation that will scale as the firm grows;
  • a team player committed to providing responsive service to internal and external clients, willing to work with and support staff at all levels of the firm.

This is an in-person position with some potential for occasional and flexible remote work opportunities after two months of full-time employment. We are interviewing for this position immediately.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare financial reports for Principals and management including weekly dashboards, monthly financial statements, and packages.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of annual budgets, producing multi-year forecasts and analysis of budget/forecast variances and financial trends.
  • Manage BigTime (project management software) and QuickBooks software.
  • Collaborate with Studio Mentor and Project Managers to manage workload forecasts and cashflow, reporting successful outcomes or variances from cashflow planning milestones.

Bookkeeping & Accounting: 

  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Assist with month-end close by preparing and reviewing journal entries and performing balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Process Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash, and journal entries.
  • Work with Principals and Project Managers to prepare and forward monthly client invoices.
  • Monitor Accounts Receivable to ensure timely collections.
  • Assist with daily cash activities and capital distributions.
  • Lead the annual submission of R&D and Section 179D tax credit applications in collaboration with existing consultants.

Executive Management:

  • Become a key member in brwarchitects’ management team, actively participating in meetings, engaging in open, candid, and constructive dialog that identifies, prioritizes, and resolves the firm’s most important issues.
  • Manage Human Resource systems and protocols, including but not limited to employee benefits management and insurance policy evaluation and renewals, participate in and provide performance data for evaluation of employees on a semi-annual basis; and assist Office Manager with staff recruitment and onboarding, response to HR policy-related employee questions and requests.
  • Put finance skillset at the service of the rest of the organization, helping Project Managers see and understand the data they need in order to make better decisions.
  • Provide data analysis for financial, asset management, and management activities.
  • Advise firm leadership on strategic planning and policies.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in the professional service industry preferred, architectural services/professional design service experience a plus.
  • Positive outlook and a demonstrated history of personal growth and learning.
  • Strong financial skillset with mastery of GAAP principles and acumen in financial decision making.
  • Client-oriented, committed to providing friendly and responsible service to internal and external clients.
  • A strong team player who is able to set aside personal ego and collaborate with the greater team to help the firm achieve its goals.
  • An excellent communicator who can hold strategic conversations with Principals and who can communicate patiently and professionally with clients and staff.
  • Experience with Bigtime (or the demonstrated ability to learn quickly) and QuickBooks software. This individual will be expected to become a Bigtime super user.
  • Good judgement, clear thinking, and a strong sense of integrity and personal responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience in Finance and Accounting with successful career progression to a supervisory role.
  • Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree in related field with extended supervisory professional experience also considered.

Architectural Associate (3+ years experience)

Brwarchitects is currently hiring Architectural Staff with a minimum of 3 years of post-degree professional experience. This position may be licensed or seeking licensure.

An Ideal Candidate for this position will:

  • have a strong design instinct;
  • have a diverse knowledge of architectural principles and techniques;
  • be proficient in the production of construction drawings using REVIT;
  • be able to produce work in line with project budgets and schedule;
  • be motivated, organized, collaborative, and enthusiastic.

The person in this position should have communication and coordination skills to manage their tasks and work closely with colleagues, clients and consultants.

Architectural Associate (Construction Administration)

We are hiring Architectural Staff with a minimum of 3 years of post-degree professional experience, with demonstrated experience from design through construction phase services. This position may be licensed or licensure-track.

An Ideal Candidate for this position will:

  • have a diverse knowledge of advanced architectural principles and building techniques;
  • have demonstrated experience in construction administration and be able to work independently during construction phase services;
  • be proficient in the production of construction drawings using REVIT;
  • be able to perform work efficiently within project budgets and schedule;
  • be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and have strong interpersonal skills.
