Architectural Bookkeeper

brwarchitects is seeking an Architectural Bookkeeper to oversee the firm’s fiscal functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP). Reporting to firm Principals, this individual will serve as the key resource for day-to-day bookkeeping at brwarchitects. 

If you’re experienced and are interested in Architecture and in leading the financial operation of a small firm like ours, we want to hear from you! The ideal candidate for this position should be:  

    • a doer who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and dig into the daily operations (AP, AR, reconciliations, etc.);
    • a builder who can help plan and build a more streamlined, systematized financial operation that will scale as the firm grows; and 
    • a team player committed to providing responsive service to internal and external clients, willing to work with and support staff at all levels of the firm. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

Bookkeeping:  

    • Make certain that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable Federal, State, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial tax reporting. 
    • Assist with month-end and year-end close by preparing and reviewing journal entries and performing balance sheet reconciliations. 
    • Process Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash, and journal entries. 
    • Work with Principals and Project Managers to prepare and forward monthly client invoices. 
    • Monitor Accounts Receivable to ensure timely collections, reviewing and making any necessary corrections to project entries in Bigtime based on Consultant bills. 
    • Assist with daily cash activities and capital distributions. 
    • Lead the annual submission of R&D and Section 179D tax credit applications in collaboration with existing Consultants.  

Financial Reporting:  

    • Prepare financial reports for Principals and management including weekly dashboards, monthly financial statements, and packages. 
    • Assist with the development and maintenance of annual budgets, producing multi-year forecasts and analysis of budget/forecast variances. 
    • Manage Bigtime, after a period of training, and QuickBooks software on a day-to-day basis. 
    • Collaborate with Studio Mentor and Project Managers to manage workload forecasts and cashflow, reporting successful outcomes or variances with cashflow planning milestones. 
    • Report quarterly on KPIs.  

Business Management:  

    • Become a key member in brwarchitects’ management team, actively participating in meetings, engaging in open, candid, and constructive dialogue that identifies, prioritizes, and resolves the firm’s most important issues. 
    • Assist Human Resources with insurance policy evaluation and renewals and with performance data for evaluation of employees on a semi-annual basis.
    • Put finance skillset at the service of the rest of the organization, helping Project Managers see and understand the data they need in order to make better decisions. 
    • Provide data analysis for financial, asset management, and management activities.  

Qualifications:  

    • Experience in the professional service industry preferred. Architectural services/professional design service experience a plus. 
    • A positive outlook and a demonstrated history of professional growth and learning. 
    • Strong financial skillsets with mastery of GAAP and acumen in financial decision making. 
    • Client-oriented; committed to providing friendly and responsible service internally and externally. 
    • A strong team player able to collaborate with others to help the firm achieve its goals. 
    • Excellent communication skills. This individual must be able to hold strategic conversations with Principals and show patience and professionalism with clients and staff. 
    • Experience with Bigtime, or the demonstrated ability to learn quickly, and QuickBooks software. This individual will be expected to become a Bigtime super user. 
    • Good judgement, clear thinking, and a strong sense of integrity and personal responsibility.
    • Professional Finance and Accounting experience preferred. Relevant formal training, certifications, and/or education a plus.

Architectural Associate (Construction Administration)

We are hiring Architectural Staff with a minimum of 3 years of post-degree professional experience, with demonstrated experience from design through construction phase services. This position may be licensed or licensure-track.

An Ideal Candidate for this position will:

  • have a diverse knowledge of advanced architectural principles and building techniques;
  • have demonstrated experience in construction administration and be able to work independently during construction phase services;
  • be proficient in the production of construction drawings using REVIT;
  • be able to perform work efficiently within project budgets and schedule;
  • be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and have strong interpersonal skills.
