Rugby Road Historic Fraternity House
A sensitive historic renovation for one of UVA’s first fraternities in a neighborhood where BRW has worked many times over the years.
The historic Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house, located at the edge of the University of Virginia grounds, was the first Greek organization to cross Beta bridge and locate their home north of the railroad tracks nearly 100 years ago. The building was the fraternity’s first purpose-built home and serves as the residence of the founding chapter of PIKE. As such, the desire to protect the character of the home’s traditional Georgian detailing and rich history while providing a modern transformation to the systems, spaces and services provided a unique challenge. Underpinning these efforts is a continuing effort to provide a building that will foster a strong and supportive brotherhood for years to come.
