principal

Kurt Keesecker is Principal at brwarchitects with career experience in community-focused infill and development projects that strengthen the relationship between private enterprise and public good. In addition to shepherding the firm’s success with Bruce since 2018, Kurt has a near-infinite supply of tales from growing up in Tennessee and the uncanny ability to ‘gamify’ nearly every activity.

From 2009 to 2018 Kurt served as a member of the City of Charlottesville Planning Commission, contributing the perspective of a citizen architect to the public discourse. Highlights of Kurt’s career at BRW are projects which have achieved a delicate balance of private interest and public investment: The Hospice House, the Belmont Lofts, the resident-led redevelopment at South First Street, and projects with institutional and non-profit clients including Martha Jefferson Hospital, Thomas Jefferson Foundation, and Piedmont Housing Alliance. These projects have been able to address needs in our community that cannot be captured on a pro forma, and by doing so, they have added a rich value to the quality of life in Charlottesville and its surrounding communities.

Kurt, his wife Lia, and their three children make their home in a quiet corner of Belmont, where they enjoy walking across the Belmont Bridge for events in town or kicking a ball through the grass in the shade of their one large tree. In 2020, Kurt was recognized by Central Virginia Chapter of the Virginia Society AIA as a Chapter Honors Recipient.
